A wealth of great tracks from the shiftier side of southern soul – that version of the genre that often deals with loving, lying, and messing around! The tracks here have plenty of love, that's mighty sure – but there's also some double-dealing too – as themes of cheating and fidelity play heavy on some of the best numbers. Most of these songs weren't really big hits back in the day, and many of them come from the Memphis scene – which, given its 70s sophistication, seems to be the epicenter of such grooves from back in the day!
Sourced almost exclusively from Hi with minor contributions from Crazy Cajun, Paula-Ronn and Ace - the sound quality, relative rarity of the selections and their sequencing provide a very pleasing listening experience up there with the Fantasy Stax-Volt reissues.
